Arson Safety Checklist

Whilst the number of fires starting from arson has reduced, it is still a common cause.  Is your building/home an easy target?

Here are some actions that you can carry out to help reduce the risk.

  • Regular inspections carried out to check security and housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure employees are trained on what to look for (anything that can look suspicious) and advise of any changes or updates.
  • Control visitor access to private areas.
  • Protect vulnerable external glazing and skylights with metal security shutters, bars or grilles and replace flimsy fire exit doors with a steel variety approved.
  • Check that your security measures are in place and activated at the end of each day.
  •  Change access codes to buildings reguarly
  • Ensure combustible goods are stored safely in secure containers (minimum of 10m distance)
  • Contact your local fire protection team to keep up to date with the latest arson attacks in your area.
  • External letterboxes mounted to the wall will help reduce the risk of someone posting flammable materials through the door.
